I've introduced or re-introduced the following features:

1. Necromancy warning. It now warns you that a thread hasn't been posted on for 30 days at the top and bottom of the topic. If this proves insufficient then certain member groups may be prevented from posting on old threads, but I hope it doesn't have to come to that.

2. Bumping. SDC Member++ and above can now bump threads once a day. This feature is located near the top of the thread.

3. Closing own topics. Members can now use the "author moderation" button at the top of a thread to lock their own topics. This will automatically lead to a post saying it was closed by the author. On the community affairs and computing forums you can alternatively choose to mark your own thread as "resolved" which is similar, but notes instead that the author deemed the matter to be resolved and furthermore adds [RESOLVED] to the thread title. Note: Members cannot re-open threads they have closed and the automatic messages do not increment people's postcounts.

P.S. Abuse of any of SDC's features may lead to disciplinary action and/or the features being removed.

Hopefully this will cut down on accidental necromancy - assuming that the majority of necromancy really was accidental. I'm fairly certain it was.

Also, bump, woot.

Please refrain from locking older threads, it is a form of necroing..

Indeed, don't go back to old threads just to lock them.

Sounds like a good rule to have in place - hopefully there will no longer be as many necro topics popping up.

Whoops! Sorry, also, does this disable the ability for blues to lock and unlock topics whenever they want?

I think that everyone can lock their own topics now. Don't know about opening them, however.

Blues can still lock topics, but they can't unlock them. However, they can't lock them without it automatically posting a message.

Oh, okay, why is this? (that we can't reopen)

Because people abused the feature by re-opening topics locked by mods. If people need a topic opening they can talk to a mod.

That was a quote by Laurie, not by me.

See? Ren is already abusing his quote feature to troll us.

But, on topic, can it be made that we can reopen topics only if we closed them?

No.

The forum doesn't allow for that.

But... but... Necromancy is not allowed?... I am a Necromancer... I practice Necromancy and the Dark Arts for the good of the people...

Ahem, joking aside:

Woot, my Bumping is back! Its also good to know I got a chain-lock for the threads I don't need anymore.
