The name "MechScape World" worked great when the game was called MechScape, but now it seems like it'll be called Stellar Dawn so we are investigating the option of going for a new name.

We've got a couple of ideas of our own, but we'd love to hear what you guys think it should be called, so please submit your ideas to MSW Suggestions (or e-mail MechScape@hotmail.com but don't forget to tell us your MSW display name). Please don't post your ideas on the forum as some nefarious person may register the domain name before we get the chance to and then not hand it over to us. Also be aware that if someone has already registered a domain for your suggestion then it makes it kinda difficult for us to go for that name.

Note: There is no need to suggest StellarDawnWorld as a name.

Just to note. Some popular suggestions like Stellar World and SDWorld have already been registered by people who are not us. You can easily check if a domain name has been registered by going to DomainTools at the links below.

I don't know but certainly not for a couple of months. It'd be good if it could be part of a proper "relaunch".

To be honest, I think we should keep MechScape World. I didn't when the suggest a name started. But the name grows on you. Stellar Dawn Central sounds like a name Jagex would come up with.

Hopefully the new name will grow on you too. While being called MSW is great in the short term because it's what people know, in the long term it's bad for searchability (i.e. we won't rank well for a search for "Stellar Dawn"), it's bad for communicating what we are (i.e. people won't know we're an SD fansite) and it's bad for identity (i.e. it'd be about the old game not the new game). The SDC name is linked to MSW's heritage as MSW started out as MechScape Central back on the 23rd of October 2007.

I think that Ren is trying to say that MSW is already permanently linked to a game, Mechscape. Mechscape world is best known for Mechscape and will probably always will be. So it would be best that we start off "new" with a name that is not linked to any game and link it to Stellar Dawn.

There is a difference between an unrelated name that is short and snappy, and a name that is long and not snappy, and not just unrelated, but related to something incredibly out of date.

Plus, tip had the benefit of being the first and only site for its time. We don't. Everyone is going to want to be the big one, and we can't afford to have such an uncompetitive name for SEO.

We were still the first, and only one for a while. It's a shame almost no one knew about the game at the time, though, and it's still not out (assuming MechScape and Stellar Dawn are still at least a bit of the same thing).

Yes, and while people may know them as tip.it (a domain which hosted fansites for more than just RS) their name is actually "Rune Tips" (source) which is related to the game. Similarly Zybez.net's name from 2001 until at least 2008 has actually been simply "RuneScape Help", with Zybez just being the name of those behind the site (source).

Yes, being memorable is important. A name which is just a random unrelated word or whatever can be hard to remember even if it is short.

Stellar Dawn Central also reminds me too much of badly put together funorb fansites and I would rather go the route of some cool name (like zybez or tip.it) with the "actual name" being something like "Stellar Dawn Help".

probly, once enough possible names have been entered. Only problem is I can't think of any. It needs to be weird and spontaneous, not some long, drawn out elaborate, calculation naming process (a.k.a. "lame")
